A Chatham man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting his teenage daughter and attacking local police.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a Thornhill Crescent address in Chatham on Tuesday at around 11 p.m. after an argument between a man and his 17-year-old daughter turned physical.

When the teen attempted to remove herself from the situation, police said the argument escalated and her father allegedly assaulted her.

When officers arrived, the man was found in a garage, yelling and destroying property. He then allegedly threatened the officers before charging at them. Police were forced to use a Taser to take the man into custody.

As a result, the 49-year-old accused is now charged with assault and assaulting a peace officer. He was held until sober and released with an October court date.
