Author Talk at CKPL Encourages Respectful Conversations

A local author will be in the spotlight next week, trying to break down barriers and promote respectful conversations.

The Chatham-Kent Public Library is hosting an author talk with Chatham’s Ray Robertson next Tuesday, April 29, launching his latest book “The Right to be Wrong” at the Chatham branch.

Organizers say the evening will include a thought‑provoking discussion on writing, ideas, and the importance of intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, and respectful dialogue in today’s world.

Ward Six Councillor Alysson Storey will be on hand for a moderate conversation with Robertson, followed by an audience question and answer period.

“Supporting artistic talent from Chatham is so important, to inspire others and to remind each other of the wide variety of immense talent coming from our community” Storey said in a news release. “Ray’s perspective is an interesting and unique one during a time of political strife and uncertainty. The need for robust and respectful disagreement and debate is more important than ever.”

This event, which runs from 6:30-8pm, is free and open to the public.

Copies of “The Right to Be Wrong” will be available for purchase at the event, followed by a book signing. Light refreshments will be provided by the Library Café.

Robertson, who was inducted into the Chatham-Kent Cultural Hall of Fame in 2025, is the author of nine novels, seven collections of nonfiction, and one book of poetry. His work has been translated into several languages. Born and raised in Chatham, he now lives in Toronto.
