Some good news on the local COVID-19 front as the case count in Chatham-Kent has dropped by 4 since Friday, now down to 37.

There have been 584 cases total in the municipality, with 544 cases resolved, and 3 deaths.

There are currently three outbreaks, one each in an institution, a school, and a work place.

In the Windsor-Essex region, there are 127 new cases of COVID-19 today.

The region has 83 confirmed COVID patients in hospital, including 13 in the ICU, and another 118 suspected cases being treated.

Lambton County is now dealing with 66 active cases after a significant jump over the weekend.

The number of COVID cases across Ontario continue to rise today.

Provincially, 2123 new cases have been reported along with 17 new deaths linked to the virus.

Ontario premier Doug Ford has locked the door.

As expected Ford announced today in Toronto that at 12:01 on December 26th the entire province will go back to the lock down designation.

That means only essential businesses will remain open like grocery stores, and pharmacies.

Dine in restaurants will be closed but take out and drive through will continue to operate.

Schools will not return after the break as planned on January 4th.

Kindergarten through grade 8 will return January 11th and high schools on January 23rd.

The lock down will be in effect for at least 14 days in Northern Ontario and 28 days for us, and the rest of Southern Ontario.
