Drivers in Wallaceburg are able to pass over the Base Line Bridge again.
It reopened this afternoon.
Municipal officials say the contractor did the final checks, which involved moving 50 pound steel plates around to the various areas below the bridge and then taking the jacks off to ensure the span is properly balanced.
The contractor will still need to operate the bridge over the next few days to continue working on the balancing.
This will involve intermittent closures while the bridge is being opened and closed.
During this time, the bridge will still be opened and traffic will be allowed to cross the bridge while it is not being operated.
In order to complete the final balancing and commissioning, the bridge will need to be closed for one full day (7am to 5pm) next week.
The exact date of this closure has not been determined yet as it is dependent on the outcome of the work planned over the next few days.
