History comes alive next weekend at Longwoods Road Conservation Area.
Members of the Upper Thames Military Re-enactment Society and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority will recreate the Battle of Longwoods from the War of 1812 on May 6 and 7, giving guests a glimpse into life during the early 19th century.
Longwoods Road Conservation Area will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day of the event, allowing visitors to experience life as a soldier, camp follower, Indigenous member, and merchant.
The weekend will include period music, live action tactical and artillery demonstrations, a tour of the camp, and a mini militia to teach children about a soldier’s life in battle and take part in simple arms drills. Visitors can also go on self-guided tours of Ska-Nah-Doht Village and nature trails throughout the conservation area.
