What started as a call to a fire ended with police officers arresting a man with guns drawn in downtown Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the fire under the parking lot of a King Street address, known locally as “the cave,” at around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday.
A man was located at the scene and arrested at gunpoint after officers spotted the handle of what appeared to be a firearm tucked in the man’s waistband.
The man cooperated and following a search, officers seized a BB gun and suspected methamphetamine.
As a result, a 56-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was released from custody with conditions and a December court date.
