Bee Death Research Continuing

honey-beeLocal researchers may have found a way to reduce the number of deaths in honey bees.

Dr. Gregor Reid, a researcher at Lawson Health Research Institute and Western University in London, says his recent study on fruit flies has shown promising results for honey bees:

“So when you give a probiotic, it helps the immune system to fight off infection and the fruit fly than lives longer,” says Ried. “Giving it to bees, that’s quite a challenging thing to do though, so that will be in a year or so.”

Reid says the next step is to do field studies on honey bees, which should happen in about a year in the London area.
