This year’s Big Bike fundraiser in Chatham-Kent was the best on record for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Senior Area Manager Jennifer Hassan says the event set records for not only money raised, but team participation.
“This is the best year that we’ve ever had from a team participation standpoint as well as a fundraising standpoint,” Hassan explains.
This is 25th year the Big Bike has come to the municipality, with a number of returning teams.
“So far we have raised more than $85,000 in the Chatham-Kent area, we had over 70 teams that have ridden so far,” Hassan says. “Combined with the teams that are riding in London right now, we’re looking towards over $300,000 that will be raised over 19 days just from our Big Bike event.”
The organization has added an extra Big Bike ride in Chatham in August to accommodate all of the teams that wanted to take part.
Money raised stays in southwestern Ontario, benefiting a stroke centre in Chatham as well as research facilities in London.
