Dave Depencier is one of the local organizers, and says the festivities will include the official renaming of the Dresden arena in honour of the late Ken Houston earlier that weekend.
“The name change itself kind of opened the doors for us to do something special for him and his family to remember him. Hometown Hockey is coming that weekend as well, so they’re going to be part of this event in some degree. Ken’s grandsons are playing on the Saturday morning for the minor hockey game day for the changing of the name as well,” says Depencier.
Depencier says the whole weekend will have something for everyone.
“Friday night we’ve got the Kings game where Hometown Hockey will be making an appearance. We’ve got a speaker lined up for Friday night. and then Saturday we do the name change around noon, hockey games start at from 7 or 8 in the morning and going into the afternoon. The kids are involved, the community is involved, the families are involved – it’s just going to be a fantastic event,” says Depencier.
The Dresden festivities also include a dance on the evening of the 15th.
Meantime in Blenheim, a Sportsnet crew will be in town for the Blades’ December 9th game against Wallaceburg.
