Black History Month

uncle toms cabinToday marks the start of Black History Month, with a number of events taking place around Chatham-Kent.

The Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society is hosting a special program at the Chatham branch of the library for this Friday’s PA Day, telling the story of Henry’s Freedom Box, and learning about Chatham’s role in the Underground Railroad.

Also on Friday, a Lunch and Learn is taking place at Leila’s Legacy in Dresden with a soul food dinner and a presentation by Brenda and Steve from Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

On February 18th, the Black Historical Society is holding a free history program is being held at the Black Mecca Museum at the WISH Centre. You can visit ckbhs.org for more details.

And the Sounds of Buxton will fill the air with a performance at the North Buxton Community Church on February 26th.  You can get more info on the event through the Buxton National Historic Site.
