According to police, the pair went to the Blenheim detachment to report their bank cards, cheques and bank deposit book had been stolen from their car.
Turns out though that it was a scam and the pair were actually the ones defrauding themselves.
Police say the man, wearing a disguise, used the bank card and cheques. Both were arrested and charged with nearly 11 counts of fraud, and a handful of other offences.
