Bluewater Health Showing Its Pride

Bluewater Health employee, Brian Slaughter, welcomes the addition of crosswalks at the Petrolia and Sarnia hospitals.

Hospitals in Petrolia and Sarnia are a little more colourful these days.

Bluewater Health has unveiled new Pride crosswalks as part of its ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Officials says the crosswalks display the Progress Pride Flag, a rainbow along with black, brown, and trans colours.

Officials at Bluewater Health say they are committed to being a safe space for anyone who enters the hospital, whether they are a patient, care partner, or staff member.

“I was thrilled to hear about the addition of the crosswalks,” said Brian Slaughter, Bluewater Health staff member. “It’s so important for everyone to feel they can come here to work or receive care in an accepting environment. Everyone should feel safe, no matter who they are or where they are. Adding this symbol of inclusion is an encouraging step forward and builds on the hospital’s culture of kindness.”

The paint for the crosswalks was generously donated to the hospital by Shell Canada’s Sarnia Manufacturing Centre.
