A tragic end to the search for a missing teen in the Thames River in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent Police first announced yesterday morning there was a heavier police presence along the river as part of an ongoing investigation. Authorities now say that investigation surrounded two teenage girls, 15 and 17 years old respectively, who reportedly jumped off the Third Street Bridge in Chatham.
First responders safely pulled the 15-year-old from the water, however there was no sign of the 17 year old. A coordinated search effort was launched, including the use of aerial drone support, the Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue boat, Chatham Kent Police Marine Unit, members of the Emergency Response Team and the Ontario Provincial Police helicopter and Dive Team.
The body of the victim was recovered later that day.
