A pair of authors born in Chatham-Kent are being honoured for their contributions to the literary world.
The Chatham-Kent Public Library is partnering with Project Bookmarks Canada, a national charitable organization dedicated to celebrating Canadian authors and the places that inspired their work, to recognize Robertson Davies and Lori Lansens.
A plaque honouring Robertson Davies will be unveiled at the Thamesville library on Tuesday, September 22, featuring an excerpt from “Fifth Business.” The ceremony will include remarks from project supporters and community partners, as well as a public reading of the passage featured on the plaque.
Visitors are also invited to explore the Thamesville Old Town Hall Museum, which will be open during the event and will feature materials highlighting Robertson Davies’ connection to the community.
Residents can also take a walking tour, showcasing locations in Thamesville that were significant in the author’s early life, including his birthplace and the site of his father’s printing press.
A second plaque will be installed at the Chatham Branch in honour of Lori Lansens, although at this point, a date for the unveiling and ceremony details are still in the works.
