More kids will be able to dig into a good book, thanks to local residents and the Kiwanis Club of Chatham-Kent.

The service organization held a Bottles for Books drive on May 25th, collecting empty beer and liquor bottles and using the return money to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free books to kids up to five years old in the community.

In all, $1200 was raised.

“We are truly grateful to Memorie Lane Beverage & Bartending Services in Chatham-Kent. The day after our bottle drive, we received a call from Craig Lane, the owner, who generously contributed a donation from the drinks sold at RetroFest,” said Kiwanis Club Membership Chair, Jenn Paradis in a media release. “His ongoing support, inspired by his family’s dedication to education, and The Dolly Parton Imagination Library underscores the community spirit that drives our initiatives.”

Looking ahead, the Kiwanis Club is hoping to find an outdoor location to place a permanent container for year-round bottle donations. Chatham businesses interested in supporting this initiative are encouraged to reach out to the club.
