The festival is being held in Ottawa next month.

Team Captain Collette Johanson says the team is made up of breast cancer survivors.

“Our team is made up of dragon boat people from the Breast Buddies,” she says.
“We have two people joining us from the Lambton Shores team, one who used to paddle with the Wonder Broads that are in Windsor, and we have four ladies joining us from Wonder Woman’s Warrior’s team from Welland.

There are 58 teams registered for the inaugural event, which filled up within 10 minutes.

“We are guaranteed three races, 250 metres each,” Johanson says, “which is the same length I believe that they do for the Sydenham Challenge in Wallaceburg.”

The Ice Dragon Boat Festival runs February 17th and 18th, coinciding with Winterlude in Ottawa.
