It was a dream come true for Chatham’s Bridget Carleton.
The basketball superstar brought her Iowa State Cyclones to town for an NCAA game against Eastern Michigan last night.
“Just the fact that it’s actually happening, that I’m playing an NCAA game in Chatham, I never thought that would happen,” she says. “It’s really special to have my family and so many people that have been such a big part of my life growing up be here and watch us play, it’s been surreal, hard to put into words really but I’m really thankful for this.”
Carleton scored 17 points to head the Cyclones to an 85-59 victory over Eastern Michigan.
Cyclones’ coach Bill Fennelly says she’s one of the best in college basketball.
“Bridget defines position-less basketball, she plays inside, outside, she’s got the ball, she shoots it, she defends it,” he says. “She’s a great teammate, and the best thing about her is every time she’s in the game, we’re a better team and the other four are better players.”
Iowa State is now 5-0 to start the season.
