Organizers released a statement saying: “It is with sincere regret that the Moore Agricultural Society is announcing the postponement of the 2020 Brigden Fall Fair to the Fall of 2021.
Unfortunately as a result of the ongoing global pandemic, the Moore Agricultural Society does not feel that they can successfully hold such an event without compromising the safety of the volunteers, exhibitors, staff, judges, vendors, sponsors, community, and patrons that are relied upon.”
This would have been the 170th annual Brigden Fair.
The Brigden Fairgrounds welcome upwards of 50,000 people each year at the four-day event.
The organizing committee says enhancement of both rural and urban life is central to the mission of the Moore Agricultural Society, and because of the way this year has progressed, the possible benefits of moving forward with the fair are outweighed by the risks involved.
“In addition to the individual health risks, the financial considerations of moving forward with the Brigden Fair have weighed heavily on the minds of the Fair Board. The operation of the Moore Agricultural Society largely relies on donations provided through the generosity of local individuals and businesses. We recognize that many, if not all of our sponsors have been hit hard over the past few months by the economic repercussions of the ongoing global pandemic. The Moore Agricultural Society refuses to let the 170th Brigden Fall Fair become a financial burden to our sponsors and to the community that supports us.”
The committee adds that the Moore Agricultural Society membership will take this time to complete projects around the property and work with their committees (while social distancing), to come back stronger and even more creative next year.
They ask for local residents to continue to work on exhibits using the theme “Hats Off to Brigden Fair”, hone your prize winning recipes and plan for a time when we can all meet again and truly give “thanks” that together we have endured.
