Students at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Chatham are unveiling a unique community project.

Jennifer Kranenburg’s Grade 5/6 class has been working on a Little Free Pantry, which she says addresses a growing issue in the east end.

“One way they thought they could help out was to raise awareness about the lack of affordable grocery stores in the east end and see if there was a way they would be able to bring food into the community,” says Kranenburg. “We already have a large outdoor garden where we grow our own food and they thought it would be a neat idea to try out a little free pantry.”

The pantry will have non-perishable food items and toiletries – available for anyone in need. Residents are welcome to leave donated items in the pantry if they want to help out.
