Broken Headlight Leads Police To Cocaine

A busted headlight has led to drug charges for a Chatham man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers on patrol spotted a vehicle with one of its headlights out, travelling west on Grand Avenue West in Chatham at around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Officers stopped the vehicle at the Sandys Street intersection and determined that the driver did not have a licence. The driver was arrested, and during a search of the vehicle, officers seized drug paraphernalia and around 7.6 grams of cocaine.

A 28-year-old Chatham man is now charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The accused was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
