The second of two community consultation meetings is being held tonight as Chatham-Kent council prepares for budget deliberations.
Over 900 area residents logged into the virtual meeting Wednesday afternoon with a number of local officials on hand to answer questions, including Chatham councillor and budget chair Brock McGregor, Mayor Darrin Canniff, and Chief Financial Officer Gord Quinton, among other municipal staff.
A number of issues were raised during a question and answer period, ranging from the proposed community hub that would combine the civic centre, museum, and library in the former Sears building in Chatham; social issues such as homelessness and affordable housing; and potential service cuts.
A similar meeting will be held online this evening, starting at 7 o’clock, and will be live-streamed on the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Facebook page.
Deliberations begin at the Civic Centre next Tuesday beginning at 6pm, with time set aside Wednesday and Thursday, if necessary. All of those meetings will also be available online on YourTV CK’s YouTube Channel. If more time is needed, time has been set aside on December 3 and 4 to continue the discussion.
Anyone wishing to make a deputation to Council can do so on the first night of deliberations on November 26. Requests and submissions must be sent by email to ckfps@chatham-kent.ca before noon that day.
