Budget Meetings Continue

The issue of Chatham-Kent roads were top of mind for some at last night’s budget open house in Wallaceburg. wallaceburg-budet-meeting

Don Dessurreault says Wallaceburg streets are in terrible  shape.

“I travel to other parts of Chatham-Kent, I see beautiful roads in other villages like Tilbury, Ridgetown, Blenheim, Bothwell,” Dessurreault says. “But I don’t see much happening in Wallaceburg.”

While McNaughton Ave and Murray will be repaired in the spring, the municipality says it currently does ‘spot’ repairs when necessary, rather than paving entire roads.

Municipal staff outnumbered members of the public at last night’s meeting.

A similar session was held in Blenheim, with issues ranging from policing to infrastructure raised.

The final budget open house is being held at the Active Lifestyle Centre in Chatham, starting at 4:30 this afternoon.

Budget deliberations begin next week with a proposed tax hike 1.96%.
