Firefighters have given the all-clear after an odour prompted the evacuation of the high school in Pain Court.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue said firefighters from Station 4 responded to École secondaire catholique de Pain Court (ESPC) on Notre Dame Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Monday, after receiving reports of a burning odour inside the building.
The school was proactively evacuated to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Fire crews conducted an investigation and were able to trace the source of the odour to a malfunctioning component within a rooftop HVAC unit. Power to the affected unit was cut, and repairs were made.
After confirming that there were no further hazards, students and staff were able to safely return to class.
