Burnouts Lead Police To Alleged Impaired Driver

A Chatham man has learned that doing a burnout on a public street is a good way to draw the attention of local police.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers saw a vehicle doing burnouts on Grand Avenue East in Chatham at around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, before it left the area at a high rate of speed.

Police stopped the vehicle on St. Clair Street and, believing the driver was under the influence of alcohol, he was arrested and taken to police headquarters for tests.

A 22-year-old accused is now charged with impaired driving, stunt driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and driving with a suspended licence. The man’s vehicle was towed from the scene and will be impounded for seven days. He will answer the charges in court next month.
