A 2014 report uncovered by the CBC reveals that Chatham-Kent is one of the most dangerous communities in the country when it comes to railway crossings.

Chatham-Kent has five railway crossings listed as problem areas.  Two crossings on Grand Ave., One on Caledonia Rd., The crossing at Victoria in Thamesville and at Highway 21 in Thamesville.

Mayor Randy Hope says the municipality works with Via and CN as well as CP Rail to try and keep visability at rail crossings the best it can be but driver awareness is also a factor.  The mayor says most of the problem areas are the lesser used roads where there is only bells and lights and no gates that close off the road.
