Canada Post, Postal Union Reach New Tentative Deals

Canada Post and the union representing postal workers across the country have reached tentative agreements.

The agreements between the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) and the Crown corporation were announced on Monday for both the Urban and Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier bargaining units.

The new collective agreements include a 6.5 per cent wage increase in the first year, followed by a three per cent hike in the second year, and increases matching the annual inflation rate in years three through five.

Both deals are for five years and would be in effect until January 31, 2029.

A ratification vote will be held at a later date. Both parties have agreed to not to engage in any strike or lockout activity during the ratification process.

The new deals comes after more than a year of negotiations, multiple strikes, four global offers, mediation, and an Industrial Inquiry Commission.
