Cancer Fighters Celebrated in CK

The local branch of the Canadian Cancer Society is paying tribute to some of its top fundraisers.

Last month, the agency held its Run for the Cure in Chatham-Kent for the first time, raising over $45,000 for the fight against breast cancer.

Event co-director Rachel McLeod says the agency is recognizing the teams and individuals who helped bring in the most money for the event.

“We had the Union Gas team that raised the most for a corporate team, we had the family and friends team called the Rockets that raised the most in that category, then we had a women’s team called the A-team and they raised the most in that category.”

In all, 250 people took part in the inaugural event.

McLeod says they’re already gearing up for the second annual run next year, to be held Sunday, October 6th, 2019.

“It’s hosted the same day across the province,” McLeod says. “We always want to thank everyone who came out to support us as a team, as an individual, a volunteer, a survivor, all the sponsors and businesses who supported the event this year, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.”
