CanJam Event Debuts New Theatre Sound System

The Wallaceburg and District Council for the Arts has just purchased a brand new state-of-the-art sound system for the Jeanne Gordon Theatre and now they want to see how it sounds. So, Arts Council member john Gardiner was asked to see if there was anything he could do about it.

With the help of a few other local musicians, Gardiner has organized the first annual CanJam scheduled for the theatre on Friday, June 30 at 8:00 p.m. The event will help local music fans welcome in Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations with some great blues and rock the night before the big event.

Three local bands will take part in CanJam (Canada Jam) – the Sterling Blues Band featuring Kim Sterling, a longtime fixture on the Wallaceburg music scene; the Groove, a new rock band featuring Tom Trembley, Scott Marchand and Don Cook; and Contact Zero, the new band that includes Herbie Classens and Jeff Emerson.

“We’re hoping to really be able to put the new sound system through its paces with this great lineup of local talent,” Gardiner said. “The idea was to throw a party in honour of this country’s birthday and to make some great music to boot. All of these bands have solid Wallaceburg content. There will be no advance tickets sales. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10. There will also be a bar for the event.”

Gardiner added that he’s working on a special guest for the event as well and information will be released about that in the new future.

Time to rock ‘n’ roll Wallaceburg. The Wallaceburg Arts Council hopes local music fans will come out on June 30 to help welcome the new sound system to the Jeanne Gordon Theatre
