Canniff To Seek Second Term As Mayor

Chatham-Kent’s mayor has confirmed his intention to run for reelection in the fall.

During an interview with CKXS Morning host Jay Smith on Tuesday, Darrin Canniff confirmed that he will be seeking a second term as mayor of the municipality.

“I can tell you that I absolutely love what I’m doing, I love where the community is going. So I’m certainly going to be running again as mayor,” he said.

Canniff was elected as mayor in 2018 and previously served four years as a Chatham-Kent councillor from 2014 to 2018, representing Ward 6.

With just 12 council meetings left before the municipal election on Monday, October 24, Canniff said he is looking forward to what lies ahead for the municipality.

“In these 12 meetings, I just want to set the stage for the future of Chatham-Kent. We need to keep working hard on looking to the future and laying the groundwork for people that want to move here and businesses [as well],” he said. “That’s what’s driving everything is people wanting to come here, which is really exciting and I see that happening for the next several years.”

The nomination period for the upcoming municipal election begins this Monday, May 2. The deadline to file a nomination is Friday, August 19 at 2 p.m.
