CBSA Reminding March Break Travellers To Plan Ahead

The agency responsible for enforcing Canada’s border is providing several tips to anyone planning on taking a trip over the March Break.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said it invests significant effort planning and preparing for peak periods at the border, including long weekends and holidays.

The agency said anyone crossing the border next week is urged to plan ahead, expect delays and check border wait times. Those crossing by land are also encouraged to cross during non-peak hours such as early in the morning.

Those travelling with children should bring a consent letter authorizing them to travel with the child if they share custody or are not the parent or legal guardian.

“Border services officers are always watching for missing children, and in the absence of the letter, officers may ask additional questions,” the CBSA said in a news release.

As well, border officials said everyone should ensure they have their travel documents handy and be prepared to declare all goods upon entering Canada. Travellers should be aware of everything that is inside their vehicle and are responsible for its contents

Travellers are also reminded that crossing the border with cannabis in any form without a permit or exemption authorized by Health Canada is a serious criminal offence.

The CBSA welcomed a total of 86,575,393 travellers crossing into Canada in 2023.
