A South Kent councillor is hoping to improve road safety in front of a pair of Blenheim schools.
Councillor Anthony Ceccacci put forward a notice of motion at the last meeting for staff to conduct a road safety assessment on Chatham Street South in the area of Blenheim District High School and Harwich-Raleigh Public School.
“In the past, this has always been an area that I have passed along some concerns to the Chatham-Kent police, which they have always been very diligent in going out to do enforcement,” said Ceccacci.
“Because it’s an arterial roadway, it’s been a little more of a challenge than a normal school zone, because it’s coming right into town.”
Ceccacci noted that while traditional traffic-calming measures may not be suitable for this type of roadway, he’s confident that a fresh perspective and updated policies could help identify a solution.
“We got some team members that excel in this types of circumstances, and I think it’s important to be as diligent as possible to take a look at it. Safety in those types of areas, especially school zones is of the utmost importance,” Ceccacci told CKXS News.
Ceccacci’s motion to address the road safety on Chatham Street South in Blenheim will go before council at their next meeting on November 17.
