A special teen centre in downtown Chatham has a lot to celebrate today.
After spending three years in various temporary locations, most recently the back of the old YMCA building in Chatham, ACCESS Open Minds is celebrating its grand re-opening on King Street West this afternoon.
“When you walk into the space, right away, you feel that this is a unique and special place that really gets what youth want,” says Rebecca Prince, the Coordinator of ACCESS OM CK. “There is a look and feel of positive energy, that we know is an important first impression for youth to feel welcome, valued and engaged.”
An open house is being held for the centre, which connects teens and young adults with mental health services, including the Canadian Mental Health Association, Children’s Services, Chatham-Kent Police, and local school boards.
ACCESS is also being honoured as one of only 10 certified Youth Wellness Hub Ontario locations, and is a pan-Canadian research network – the first launched under Canada’s strategy for patient-oriented research.
Today’s open house runs from 3-5pm at 140 King Street West.
