Celebrating World AIDS Day

Today is World AIDS Day and the United Way of Chatham-Kent is holding a pop-up, One Day Café.

Chef Scott Roose says it’s scientifically proven a person can’t contract HIV through food preparation.

“The idea actually came out of Toronto at Casey House, which is an AIDS hospice, they did a one-day pop up dinner and they staffed it with people that were HIV positive,” Roose says. “We’ve got people that are HIV positive that are helping out, I’m going to be cooking, we’re going to be doing a three-course meal and afterwards we’re doing a candlelight vigil.”

Space is limited for the cafe. Doors open at the United Way office on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham at 5:30pm.

The vigil, which is free and open to everyone, gets underway at 7:30pm.
