Charges Laid After Fire Alarm Pulled

Charges have been laid after a fire alarm was pulled at a Chatham business.

According to police, an alarm was triggered at a Richmond Street building just before 2:30 this morning.

Officers arrived and found water running out of a room and into the hallway, but the man inside refused to open the door.

Authorities eventually resorted to a door ram to get in. A 48-year-old was arrested and charged with mischief and setting off a false fire alarm.

Water damage to the building is pegged at $50,000.
