Charges Laid After Five-Vehicle Crash On Hwy 401

Two people are facing charges in connection with a five-vehicle crash that shut down Highway 401 for several hours last week in Chatham-Kent.

The Ontario Provincial Police said a 41-year-old Windsor resident has been charged with careless driving and a 55-year-old Elora resident has been charged with following too closely, following the crash on the 401 near Ridgetown on Thursday.

Three commercial vehicles and two passengers vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes at Victoria Road at around 2:45 p.m.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed between Victoria Road and Kent Bridge Road for close to three hours while the scene was cleared.
