Charges Laid Against Man Pulled from the Sydenham

Emergency crews had to pull a man from the Sydenham River this weekend.

Just before 8 last night, officers responded to a call about a suspicious person in the backyard of a home on Old Glass Road.

Authorities say the man waded into the river and was found holding his clothes above his head, and refused to come to shore.

The Chatham-Kent Fire Department showed up with a boat and were able to get the man out of the water.

Once cleared by paramedics at the scene, the 40-year-old of no fixed address was taken to police headquarters and charged with breach of peace. He was held in custody overnight and released this morning.
