A pattern of intimate partner violence has led to several assault charges for a Chatham man.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a Chatham residence at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday after a 22-year-old woman was assaulted while she was on the phone, resulting in a minor injury to her leg.
During an investigation, authorities learned that the victim had also been assaulted during other past incidents.
As a result, a 19-year-old Chatham man was arrested and is now charged with two counts of assault, assault causing bodily harm by choking, forcible confinement and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
It was later learned that the victim was under court-ordered conditions to avoid communication with the accused. As a result, she was also arrested, charged with failing to comply, and released with a future court date.
