Charges Laid In Collision That Killed Two Cyclists

A 22-year-old man has been charged just over two months after a collision claimed the lives of a pair of cyclists on Walpole Island First Nation.

The Ontario Provincial Police said Delsin Wade Johnson-Shipman of Walpole Island was arrested on Tuesday and charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle while impaired causing death and two counts of dangerous operation causing death.

Two women from Walpole Island, 36-year-old Michelle White and 50-year-old Gretta Williams, were riding bikes on River Road in the early morning hours on June 22 when they were struck and killed by a vehicle.

Johnson-Shipman, who was the driver, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The Walpole Island man has been released following a bail hearing and will appear in court again at a later date.
