A Chatham man who was wanted for allegedly assaulting members of his family over the last several years has been apprehended by police at Toronto’s airport.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers began an investigation on March 31 after learning several individuals in a family had been the victims of violence over the course of many years.

The accused could not be located at the time as he was out of the country, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested on Tuesday at Pearson International Airport upon his return to Canada.

He was returned to Chatham and is now charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, four counts of assault with a weapon, five counts of assault causing bodily harm, and 11 counts of assault. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
