In the wake of a fire that destroyed three Chatham businesses, one of the affected owners says they will rebuild.
Harry Verhey says the support they’ve received from the community has been phenomenal.
“We’ve had everything from people dropping of lunch to donuts, to the offer of free space,” he says.
Right now, the three businesses are operating out of Caldwell Brand Source next door, with warehouse space donated by the Junctura Group.
Verhey says they hope to all three businesses, Sacwal Flooring, Lighting and Accent Gallery, and Ideal Decorating, back in a new building under one roof as soon as possible.
“We hope to have something in place before too long,” he says. “We’re very fortunate that we have good insurance in place, so we will be rebuilding at that location (at 701 St Clair Street.)”
Sunday morning’s blaze caused an estimated $2-million in damage, with the Ontario Fire Marshal listing the cause as accidental.
