Chatham Crash Leads to Weapons Charges for Two Men

Weapons charges have been laid following a crash in Chatham.

Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Grand Avenue East near Taylor around 8 o’clock Tuesday morning.

Police say a man driving one of the vehicles threatened the woman behind the wheel of the other car with a knife, but took off before officers arrived.

The woman’s boyfriend then allegedly took matters into his own hands and went to the man’s home and assaulted him and damaged his car.

The boyfriend, a 37-year-old man, is now facing charges of assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief over $5000.

A 41-year-old man, the driver involved in the crash, has been charged with uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both now have dates in court to answer the charges next month.
