A local family doctor is facing multiple charges of sexual assault.

According to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, Dr. Robert Wismer was arrested on October 14 by Chatham-Kent Police, and is facing three counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference to persons under the age of 16 years old, and invitation to sexual touching to persons under 16 years old.

The alleged incidents took place between August 29, 2024 and October 12.

According to the CPSO website, Dr. Wismer was released from custody with conditions including no forms of contact with the alleged victim, not attending a public park or swimming area where anyone under the age of 16 is present or can reasonably be expected to be present. The conditions also include staying away from daycare centres, school grounds, playgrounds, or community centres expect with another adult who is aware of the charges.

A statement from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is aware of the charges, but Dr. Wismer is not currently providing services at the hospital.

“Chatham-Kent Health Alliance understands that the allegations are unrelated to Dr. Wismer’s medical practice or duties at the hospital, and no finding has been made by any court,” the statement reads. “The hospital is reviewing the matter.”
