The Chatham-Kent Community Hub is currently on track to be completed in early 2028.
The Hub’s second project update is being presented to council at Monday’s meeting, with staff reporting the build is 28 per cent complete and on budget.
The new Community Hub, located at 130 King Street West, will bring together the Chatham Civic Centre, the Chatham Branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library and the Chatham-Kent Museum. The project has an overall budget of $52.8 million, including more than $7 million in contingency funds.
According to the report, the construction contract is approximately $3.6 million under the original construction budget of $42.92 million, with $3.4 million in contingency funds included in the contract for unexpected costs.
The structural extensions to the north, which will house the new council chambers, and to the south, for additional library space and storage, are now complete.
Staff say work is continuing on the building’s exterior, while electrical, plumbing and mechanical work continues inside.
“Key upcoming activities include roofing, masonry stair construction, freight elevator refurbishment, spray foam insulation, and slab-on-grade concrete placement,” the report said.
