With a municipal election looming later this year, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is preparing to hire a new Director of Municipal Governance/Clerk.
Current Director Judy Shantz will be retiring at the end of the council term, and members of administration informed council of the plan Monday night, with the hopes of having a hire start mid-April to early May.
Judy Shantz has held the Clerk role since 2016. Councillor Anthony Ceccacci took the time to express his gratitude as the current council might change when Shantz is nearing her final working days.
“I’m very grateful for your dedication to us, and as a council, you put a lot of time and effort behind the scenes and I didn’t want to miss an opportunity to say thank you,” said Ceccacci.
Staff intend for the new hire to first assume the role of an Election Coordinator for five to six months before moving into the director role at the end of the municipal election.
A job posting with the details of the role, including the transition from Election Coordinator to Director of Municipal Governance/Clerk, will be posted for interested candidates to apply both internally and externally.
