Chatham Man Charged After Almost Backing Into an OPP Cruiser

A near miss in Chatham has landed a local driver with charges.

Provincial Police say just before 3 o’clock this morning, an officer on patrol was nearly hit by a vehicle that suddenly reversed in front of the cruiser on Grand Avenue East.

The investigating officer believed the driver was showing signs of intoxication and say the man behind the wheel failed a road-side test.

The 32-year-old has been charged with impaired driving and driving while under suspension. The accused has also had his license suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for one week.
