A Chatham man is facing charges, accused of attacking a police officer over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, officers on patrol spotted a man on Lacroix Street who was wanted for breaching his release conditions.
Authorities say the man ran off, jumping fences through neighbouring backyards, but was eventually tracked down on Emma Street.
Police say the man refused to comply but was taken into custody after a brief struggle. That’s when the suspect allegedly spat at, kicked, and heat butted the officers. The man is also accused of damaging the back of the police cruiser and caused some damage to the cell block at police headquarters.
The 26-year-old is now facing several charges, including resisting a peace officer, two counts of assaulting a peace officer, uttering death threats, and two counts of mischief.
