A 68-year-old man has been arrested, accused of trying to lure a child under the age of 16.

Chatham-Kent Police say investigators from the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) launched an investigation last month into allegations the accused lured a child for a sexual purpose while using various social media platforms.

On Thursday, the accused was arrested in Chatham and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Police say the victim has been identified and offered the necessary supports.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet and conducts investigations into Internet Child Exploitation Offences in partnership with numerous Ontario Police Services and law enforcement agencies worldwide.
