Chatham Man Charged with Obstructing Police

A reported break and enter has landed a Chatham man in hot water with police.

Officers were called to a Woods Street property shortly before 8 o’clock Saturday morning about a person unlawfully occupying a trailer.

Police found a man at the scene, but the accused allegedly gave a fake name. And while it was learned the man actually had permission to be at the property and had a key, authorities say he continued to give misleading information to the officers.

Further investigation showed the accused was wanted on an outstanding, unendorsed warrant relating to weapons offences and failing to attend court.

The 48-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts of obstructing police for providing a false name. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
