A Chatham man has pleaded guilty to several charges related to a human trafficking investigation that dates back to 2020.

The now 36-year-old man was arrested following a disturbance at a motel in Chatham during the early morning hours of December 17, 2020. Police later learned that the victim in the incident had been exploited.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said the man pleaded guilty last week to the charge of human trafficking. He also pleaded guilty to additional charges of assault causing bodily harm, breaching a court order, obstructing police, two counts of breaching a release order and materially benefiting from human trafficking.

The man has been in custody since his arrest and has now been sentenced to six years in prison, police said.
