The raw definition of a singer-songwriter, the Chatham native has devoted a solid portion of his adult life for moments like this.
LeClerc describes his musical journey as a tough-slugging yet lucky adventure. From Chatham to California, Michael has penned lyrics, taken the stage and worked endlessly on his craft, welcoming every inspiration along the way.
“I find inspiration in many things,” LeClerc told 99.1 CKXS. “Sometimes I could be listening to music and then I want to pick up my guitar and write a song. It could be a story in a magazine that influences the words. I also get inspiration sometimes after playing a really good show, when you’re on that natural high! ”
With former singles like “Radio”, “Turn Around” and “Life” hitting local Chatham-Kent airwaves, LeClerc is very fond of his latest piece of work. A self-produced single, “Woman” is the first track from a new collaboration and possibly a new era for the local boy hoping to make it big.
“It’s a typical love song the listening masses can relate to,” he said. “This is a confident man who turns into jello when she is around. This song challenges me as a singer because it requires a lot of deep power,” he added. “That part deep down where the soul comes from. Similar to gospel music. One day when I have a band, I will put my guitar down for this one and just sing it.”
A music video for the single will hit YouTube in August while Michael continues to work on his latest project – a new EP, or a possible full length album.
Michael, who once opened for Canadian music staples the Tragically Hip in the Cayman Islands, credits his evolution to a lucky life that has allowed him the opportunity to live and work while traveling the world because of his music and education. “Traveling has influenced my music and changed me as a person. It really opened my eyes to culture. I think everyone should travel and work in other countries. Then you will know how others look at this world and see it differently then we do here in North America.”
“Woman” can currently be heard on Wallaceburg’s 99.1 CKXS. More details can be found at www.michaelleclercmusic.com
